Prompt Golf turns prompt engineering into a competitive puzzle game. Across five rounds, you coax an out-of-the-box AI into saying an exact target word or phrase—using as few characters as possible. Each round introduces a condition or banned input words, and every character and message you send adds strokes to your score. The goal is simple: lowest score wins. It's prompt engineering reimagined as a sport, complete with a live leaderboard and replayable course.

Five distinct rounds

The course starts with "Hello, World?" — make the AI say "hello world" without using those words. Then comes Emoji Pictionary (get the AI to guess Titanic using only emoji), The Ultimate Answer (output exactly "42", nothing else), The Sycophant (make the AI say "You are absolutely right" without those words), and finally The Jailbreak (make the AI say "MANGO"). Each round has its own twist, keeping the challenge fresh.

Stroke-based scoring

Scoring is brutally simple: 1 point per character used plus 10 points per message sent. This punishes both verbosity and excessive back-and-forth. A clever, compact prompt is always better than a long-winded one, and every extra message costs you dearly.

Live leaderboard and replay

The live leaderboard updates in real time, so you can see where your score ranks among all players. After finishing, you can replay the full course to improve your strokes. And if you want to learn from the best, you can view other players' transcripts to see exactly what prompts they used.
